Jyoki Chaya' literally means 'Steam Tea House,' a type of restaurant and inn that used to be found along Itoigawa's coast. These tea houses catered to the sailors aboard the steamships that would anchor off the coast of Itoigawa unloading goods to be delivered along the Salt Trail or the Kaga Road. Like the jyoki chaya of old, this restaurants serves delicious, home-cooked meals with generous portions. Make sure to try the 'tarajiru', or cod soup, a local specialty!
